    (last updated on 09.10.2019)

Onyx Virtual Academy BVBA (hereafter referred to as "Onyx") uses cookies to improve the user experience and to collect web-statistics of visitors to our websites.

    What are cookies?

    (source: website allaboutcookies.com)

Cookies are usually small text files, given ID tags that are stored on your computer's browser directory or program data subfolders. Cookies are created when you use your browser to visit a website that uses cookies to keep track of your movements within the site, help you resume where you left off, remember your registered login, theme selection, preferences, and other customization functions. The website stores a corresponding file( with same ID tag)to the one they set in your browser and in this file they can track and keep information on your movements within the site and any information you may have voluntarily given while visiting the website, such as email address.

Cookies usually have an expiry date.  Some cookies are erased automatically when you close your browser (the so-called session cookie), while others remain on your computer for a longer period of time, sometimes even until the moment that you decide to remove it manually (the so-called persistent cookie.

    Why do we use cookies?

To preserve users states across page requests.

To register statistical data on visitors' behavior on the web site.

To collect statistics on the user's visits to the website, such as the number of visits, average time spent on the web site and what pages have been read

To remember log-in information, which optimizes the visitor experience on the website

To make live streaming of video content more efficient.

To collect non-personal information on the visitor's behavior and non-personal visitor statistics in order to better understand website/portal usage

Note that cookies also do have a real function, closing the door on cookies may result in only a part of the full functionality of a website or a web-based portal to be available to you. As always, it’s a matter of outweighing 2 conflicting interests, in this case your user experience versus privacy and security.

    Third Party Cookies

    Cookies from Google Analytics

On our website we use Google Analytics to analyse how users use the website. The information the cookie collects about your use (traffic data, including your IP address) is transmitted to and stored on Google servers in the U.S. Google uses this information to evaluate your use of the website, compiling reports on website activity and providing other services relating to website activity and internet usage.

Google may also transfer this information to third parties if required by law or if third parties process the information on Google's behalf. Google Analytics sets two types of cookies: A persistent cookie to indicate if the user is returning, where the user comes from, what search engine the user has used, keywords, etc. Session cookies are used to show when and for how long a user is on the website. Session cookies expire after each session, i.e. when you close your tab or browser. Google will not associate your IP address with any other data and information held by Google.

    Cookies from Inspectlet

Inspectlet helps companies understand their website visitors' intentions with smarter web analytics.

They use cookies to keep and track your information. They use both session ID cookies and persistent cookies. They use session cookies to make it easier for you to log in faster and navigate within the site and services. A session ID cookie expires when you close your browser. A persistent cookie remains on your hard drive for an extended period of time. They set a persistent cookie to store your password if you choose “auto login”, so you don’t have to enter it more than once. They also store your display resolution and whether JavaScript is enabled in your browser to enhance your user experience.

You can remove persistent cookies by following directions provided in Your Internet browser’s help file or by following the relevant link we have provided in the table above for your convenience.
